Cardinals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Edgerrin James won’t easily forget the 2008 season, as much as he would like to.

So far, the season has been marked by three different events for him. He gained 100 yards in the opener, 100 yards in the finale and was benched after the seventh game.

The middle of the season was miserable for James, who lost his starting job to rookie Tim Hightower and didn’t even play in three games.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt brought James off the bench last Sunday against the Seahawks. James responded with a productive day that included a 35-yard run, his longest since 2004.

James didn’t handle his demotion quietly. He was bitterly disappointed at the demotion and didn’t think it was fair.

7 years after Super Bowl, Warner back in playoffs (AP)

Seven years after his “Greatest Show on Turf” made its second Super Bowl appearance, Kurt Warner is back in the playoffs. All of his struggles since those heady days in St. Louis have made the 37-year-old quarterback relish this experience and put those past accomplishments in perspective. “It’s been a long time in waiting,” Warner said after his Arizona Cardinals practiced on Tuesday.

Arizona coach tied to playoff opponent Atlanta (AP)

Ken Whisenhunt has so many ties with the Atlanta Falcons. He grew up in nearby Augusta, went to Georgia Tech and was drafted — in the 12th round — by the Falcons. Whisenhunt interviewed for the Atlanta coaching vacancy two seasons ago, before he was hired by Arizona. And when Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey was putting together his Falcons playbook, he called Whisenhunt for some…

Warner, Fitzgerald lead Cards past Seattle 34-21 (AP)

Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald, left, runs for a touchdown after making a catch against the Seattle Seahawks in the second quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 in Glendale, Ariz. The Cardinals defeated the Seahawks 34-21.

Kurt Warner found his rhythm, Larry Fitzgerald was a glue-fingered marvel, and Edgerrin James was back. The Arizona Cardinals’ offense, even the running game, kicked into gear Sunday in a 34-21 victory over Seattle that spoiled the final game of Mike Holmgren’s decade as Seahawks coach. “Somewhere in the second quarter we woke up and we played like the Cardinals,” Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt said,…

Holmgren’s farewell comes against Cardinals (AP)

The Seahawks owned the NFC West through much of Mike Holmgren’s decade in Seattle. His last game with the team comes Sunday against Arizona, the division’s new champion. The Cardinals, though, are not exactly storming into their first playoff appearance in a decade. Staggering is more like it. Since clinching the division title three weeks ago, Arizona has been blown out by Minnesota (35-14) and New…

Cardinals will play starters against Seahawks (AP)

In a perfect world, playoff-bound Arizona would rest its starters in the meaningless regular-season finale against Seattle on Sunday. In the Cardinals’ world, the starters will play as the NFC West champions try to pull out of a late-season tailspin. Arizona is groping for answers after dropping four of its last five games, including blowouts against Minnesota and New England in the two weeks after…
