Bears Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Tommie Harris returned to practice this week on a limited basis, proclaiming himself rededicated to his team, his profession and his faith after last week’s suspension for repeated tardiness.

“It feels great,” he said after the workout. “You never know how much you miss something until it’s taken away from you. I’ve apologized to my teammates and apologized to my fans, and (I’m) just getting everything together and getting ready for a strong season.”

Despite appearing on the injury list again this week, as he has every week because of unspecified problems with his surgically repaired left knee, Harris said he expects to be ready for Sunday’s game in Atlanta against the 3-2 Falcons.

Now, Orton’s play attracts attention (AP)

Suddenly, Kyle Orton’s play is as difficult to ignore as his beard. Quarterbacks who throw for 334 yards as he did for the Chicago Bears in a 34-7 win at Detroit last week tend to attract attention, and he certainly turned a few heads with that performance. That jittery rookie who left fans clamoring for Rex Grossman three years ago?

This wasn’t the first big defensive stand Lance Briggs saw and he expects more to come from the Chicago Bears. It tops the list for now. With another game about to slip away, Alex Brown stopped Correll Buckhalter at the goal line late in the fourth quarter to help preserve a 24-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night following two head-scratching losses.

Bears offer no defense for breakdowns (AP)

The way Lance Briggs sees it, the Chicago Bears could avoid another late collapse on defense by following one simple strategy. Start slowly. “We’ve been doing well at the beginning of the games. Maybe if we don’t do so well at the beginning of the games we’ll pick it up in the fourth quarter,” Briggs said with a straight face.
