Former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court Oct. 30 on cocaine trafficking charges. U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby initially set Henry’s arraignment for Oct. 14, but on Friday delayed it by two weeks at the request of attorneys. Henry is expected to enter a plea to a three-count indictment charging him with conspiracy and possession with intent to…

Kircus a no-show at hearing; arrest warrant issued (AP)
An arrest warrant has been issued for former Denver Broncos wide receiver David Kircus after he failed to show up for a court hearing. His lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, said Kircus didn’t know he needed to be present at Friday’s hearing. Kircus pleaded not guilty to a felony assault charge stemming from a fight at a party in suburban Denver in May 2007.

Someone will catch the ball for the Denver Broncos this week against Jacksonville, and someone will handle a majority of the carries. It’s a little unclear who might be in those roles, however.
The Broncos ruled tight end Tony Scheffler and running back Selvin Young out of this week’s game. They each have groin injuries. Also, receiver Eddie Royal has a bone bruise on his ankle. The team hasn’t ruled him out, but there’s a chance he’ll miss a game.
Royal couldn’t say if he would play after practice Thursday, but said he’s improving.
“I’m feeling all right, feeling good,” Royal said. “Better than yesterday, so that’s a good thing. I feel like it’s getting better.”
The Broncos aren’t going to ditch their pass-heavy offense just because of the injuries.

DOVE VALLEY — Yep, Jay Cutler said he’s got a stronger arm than John Elway.
That’s what he told a reporter from The Sporting News anyway in an interview for a story in this month’s TSN Magazine.

RB Michael Pittman’s role expanding for Broncos (AP)
Michael Pittman has been doing everything he can to convince the Denver Broncos that he deserves more carries. He should get his chance against Jacksonville on Sunday, when he figures to split snaps with Andre Hall. Tailback Selvin Young, who has averaged 5.7 yards a carry, won’t play against the Jaguars because of a strained left groin, the same injury that will keep tight end Tony Scheffler on…

The owner and the coach of the Denver Broncos praised the Denver Police Department for its dogged determination to bring charges in the slaying of Darrent Williams 21 months after the rising young star was gunned down in a drive-by shooting that shook the franchise. “I’m very pleased to bring some closure to this whole sad episode, but we’ve got a long way to go,” team owner Pat Bowlen said…

Nate Jackson was just about to address the Denver Broncos’ spate of injuries when a television reporter accidentally bashed him in the mouth with his heavy microphone. “Yeah, that would have been a horrible way to get put on injured reserve,” the backup tight end said. The Broncos (4-1) can ill afford any more ailments.

Matt Prater is starting to make a name for himself. What the Denver Broncos’ new kicker would really like is to put his name in the record book. After kicking a 55-yard field goal that would have been good from 70 yards Sunday, Prater said he wants the chance to beat the NFL record of 63 yards held by Tom Dempsey and the man he replaced in Denver, Jason Elam.

Brian Griese has one more bad memory of Denver to digest. Tampa Bay’s quarterback was knocked out of the game with a swollen right elbow on a blind-side blitz in the third quarter Sunday, and he watched helplessly as Jay Cutler guided a patient Denver offense to a 16-13 win over the Buccaneers. INVESCO FIELD — The Broncos’ top two draft picks from 2007 are both inactive for today’s game against the Buccaneers.

Shanahan troubled over the fate of Henry (AP)
Mike Shanahan begged for time before responding about the arrest of former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry on drug charges. Following Friday’s practice, the Broncos coach issued his response. “Obviously, when a guy gets an opportunity, you’re hoping that he is going to take advantage of it from a football side,” said Shanahan.

The Denver Broncos aren’t missing Jason Elam, thanks to Matt Prater. Prater has been steady this season — very Elam-esque — hitting 9 of 10 field goals, including three from beyond 50 yards. He also leads the league in scoring with 41 points. This from an unproven kicker who had only one field goal on his resume before this season.
