Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says quarterback Carson Palmer will not start Sunday’s game against the New York Jets because of a sore right elbow but that he could play. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will get his second start of the season for the Bengals. He started against the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago, the week after Palmer injured his elbow in a loss to the New York Giants and threw…

All eyes are on Carson Palmer’s inflamed right throwing elbow, and his presence in the game Sunday at the Jets would help the Bengals take advantage of a New York weakness—its pass defense.
The Jets are 31st in the NFL in pass defense at 265 yards a game, in spite of an improved pass rush.
The Bengals are 0-5 heading back to the Meadowlands for the second time in a span of three weeks. They lost there to the Giants, 26-23, in overtime Sept. 21.
Palmer said that he knew the limitations of his throwing arm Sunday at Dallas, realizing he didn’t have the confidence to throw some of the deeper, harder passes he normally would because of the injury to his throwing elbow.

Chad Ocho Cinco fessed up: He kissed the coach. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver acknowledged on Wednesday that he leaned into coach Marvin Lewis and gave him a peck on the cheek during a 31-22 loss in Dallas. He said it was the first time he’d ever kissed a coach. “It was probably the last,” he added. What brought this on?

Marvin Lewis doesn’t plan to leave one of the NFL’s safest coaching jobs. The Cincinnati Bengals coach said Monday the team’s worst start in six years hasn’t diminished his commitment to getting it turned around. A 31-22 loss at Dallas left Lewis’ team at the bottom of the league, the only one with an 0-5 record.

Three drives, three scores. The way the Dallas Cowboys were treating the winless Cincinnati Bengals, it looked as if they’d have all afternoon to work out their kinks, especially whatever’s going on between Tony Romo and Terrell Owens. But these Cowboys don’t do things the easy way. They let a 17-point lead shrivel to one, then had to break up a 2-point conversion that could’ve tied it midway…

Four games into the season, oft-injured Chris Perry is the last Cincinnati Bengals running back still standing. “Kind of ironic,” he said Thursday, chuckling. “Hey, I’ll try to keep it that way.” The Bengals can’t afford to have him hurt. Cincinnati’s running game has been a huge disappointment all season, even when Perry’s backups were healthy.

Terrell Owens can gripe all he wants. His buddy Chad Ocho Cinco doesn’t want to hear it. Only four touchdowns this season? Only one celebration penalty? Only one loss? Ocho Cinco wishes he had such problems. The receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson is so mired in muck that he can’t even get the NFL to let him wear his new surname on the back of his jersey.

Ryan Fitzpatrick had only one practice to run the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense before making his first start in three years. It quickly showed. The quarterback from Harvard threw three interceptions and fumbled during a 20-12 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, looking very much out of practice. Things got better in the second half, when he threw a touchdown pass that kept it close.
