Imagine driving from the Coast to the Louisiana Superdome for a New Orleans Saints game after scoring some tickets from an online broker or from someone on the street. Then you get to the door and the tickets are phony.

It’s looking more and more like New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston will make his return Sunday against Oakland after missing the last four games with a torn thumb ligament.

At this point, the Saints only wish the myriad problems that have been so prevalent in losing three of their last four games were limited to penalties and special teams mistakes.

Those are correctable, or at least they should be.

There’s absolutely nothing coach Sean Payton can do to correct the multitude of injuries that have plagued the Saints (2-3) since their season opener with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 7.

In the 29 days and four games between the win over the Bucs and a 30-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, nine Saints’ starters—and many backups—have missed at least one game because of injury or NFL suspension.

At least one injury-related void was filled as rookie kicker Taylor Mehlhaff is back with the New Orleans Saints to replace the struggling Martin Gramatica, who tweaked his hamstring the morning of the San Francisco game two weeks ago and was placed on injured reserve Wedsneday. The team confirmed the move.

“I’m not sure Martin is 100 percent healthy right now, let alone he’s my guy,” Payton said.

Sean Payton briefly allowed himself to smile faintly when asked about his blood pressure. “My wife asked me that,” the Saints’ coach said Tuesday, a day after New Orleans’ error-filled 30-27 loss to Minnesota. “I’m fine. You know, I’m disappointed.” Other coaches might have used stronger language if their teams had made the blunders that plagued Payton’s squad on Monday night.
