Tonight’s game: Browns (3-6) at Bills (5-4)

After a 4-0 start, the Bills have lost three straight and four of five. … Browns QB Brady Quinn will make his second career start and first on the road. A disappointing season has led to infighting among the Browns, with running back Jamal Lewis questioning whether some teammates have quit. That prompted an angry denial from coach Romeo Crennel last week.

Rob Parker: Only way up is to hit bottom

It’s official. It’s time to start rooting for 0-16. Most of the time, it’s not good to want to see your favorite team lose, especially every game. The idea alone just isn’t part of a fan’s makeup — even with a better draft pick hanging in the balance. Enter the Lions.

Key play: Fourth-quarter interception

What Daunte Culpepper saw will remain a mystery, but what we saw was any chance of a Lions rally thrown away. The Lions had closed to 24-22, then forced a three-and-out on the ensuing possession. Momentum was theirs when Culpepper brought the team to the line of scrimmage, first-and-10 from the Lions’ 14.

John Niyo: Daunting task: Familiar end for Culpepper and Lions

This is where it all nearly ended for Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper, returning to the same stadium where he suffered a career-threatening knee injury three years ago, walked off the field under his own power Sunday. But he was still hurting after the Lions’ fourth-quarter rally came up short in a 31-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers (8-2) at Bank of America Stadium. And it was Culpepper’s ill-advised throw under pressure — intercepted by rookie Charles Godfrey and returned to the Lions 4-yard line — that spoiled the Lions’ ongoing bid to avoid an 0-16 season.

Panthers’ running game keeps Lions winless 31-22 (AP)

Detroit Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper (11) dives over the goal line for a touchdown during the second half of an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. The Panthers won 31-22.

Jake Delhomme was eager to make up for the worst game of his career. He settled for handing off to his two dynamic running backs. Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams bolted through huge holes in a record-setting day on the ground for the Carolina Panthers, who needed that dominance to hold off the winless Detroit Lions 31-22 on Sunday.

Lions 14-point underdogs against Panthers

The Carolina Panthers will get their chance to weigh in on the matter of the Lions’ futility Sunday, on a crisp, sunny afternoon here at Bank of America Stadium. Winless on the season at 0-9 and losers of 16 of their last 17 games dating to last season, the Lions are 14-point underdogs facing the NFC South-leading Panthers (7-2).
