Fans for the NFL Network have reason to celebrate.

Question #5: Who will start at right cornerback?

After the free agent departure of Nate Clements in 2007 this was a legitimate question about a position that was manned by an entrenched starter for the better part of six seasons. One season later the Bills again have to address this question again. And though more than one of the current candidates for the role manned it in a starting capacity last season, the new additions have made for a stiff competition come training camp.

Question #6: Will James Hardy start?

Dick Jauron made it plain leading up to the draft that the team needed a big receiver. Someone his quarterback could throw to even if he was covered. He wanted a mismatch receiver similar to the ones other teams had that made plays when it didn’t look as though one could be made. Jauron’s request was more than answered with the 6′5″-plus James Hardy.

Question #1: Will the Bills make the playoffs?

Question #2: Who will emerge on defense?

Buffalo’s 2008 defense certainly has its share of headliners. Marcus Stroud and Aaron Schobel are chief among them as they have five Pro Bowls between them. And Kawika Mitchell has a gigantic Super Bowl ring on his finger.

Question #3: Who will emerge on offense?

Last season there were several players who emerged on offense. Not surprisingly, Marshawn Lynch was at the forefront of that group with 1,115 rushing yards and leading the team in touchdowns scored. Brad Butler also developed into a solid starter at right guard.

Question #4: Which rookie will have a greater impact?

Last year this was a difficult question as well. With Marshawn Lynch and Paul Posluszny poised to claim starting roles at very productive positions both offensively and defensively it wasn’t easy to determine which player would provide the greater impact. Unfortunately Posluszny’s broken arm in week three changed things. But entering 2008 determining which rookie will make the biggest splash is just as tough with some big time talent at the top of Buffalo’s draft board.

Giants Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

It has become fashionable to write off the Giants, even if they are defending Super Bowl champions, as a team that got hot and got lucky at the end of the season, the perfect time for those things to occur.

They really aren’t championship caliber, say the experts, who have managed to predict a Super Bowl appearance for the Dallas Cowboys, the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Favres and even a few others.

One topic, however, is being ignored. If most offensive success starts with the line up front, which NFC team has a better unit than the Giants?

The left tackle is David Diehl, a conversion last season from left guard; the right tackle is Kareem McKenzie; the left guard is Rich Seubert, whose horrific leg injury in 2003 seemed to mark him for the trash pile; the…

Saints Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Considering the Saints finished 26th in total yards allowed and 30th against the pass during their 7-9 season in 2007, most of the attention will be on the defensive side of the ball when training camp gets under way next week.

After all, major improvement on defense will be a key if the Saints expect to have a chance at returning to the playoffs. But on the other side of the line of scrimmage, the wide receivers will get their share of scrutiny as well.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the Saints passing game after they finished third in the league a year ago, but who contributes after starters Marques Colston and David Patten will be the real question.

Robert Meachem, a first-round draft pick in 2007, was inactive for all 16 games a year ago after having…

Dolphins Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Quarterback Josh McCown may have far more experience than fellow Dolphins quarterbacks John Beck and rookie Chad Henne with his 31 career starts, but his decision-making away from the field has to be questioned after nearly having the index finger of his throwing hand cut off by a chainsaw a few weeks ago.

Fortunately for McCown he only needed six stitches to sew up the digit and will be ready to compete for the starting job with Beck and Henne when training camp opens on July 26. Henne referred to McCown as his, “mentor,” recently.

The injury happened when McCown and his brother, Tampa Bay quarterback Luke McCown, were trying to clear brush and tree stumps surrounding the family’s lakefront home in Jacksonville, Texas.

There’s a Texas Chainsaw Massacre joke in…

Cowboys Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Jerry Jones has spoken with his checkbook.

The recent signing of safety Ken Hamlin for six years and $39 million concludes the richest offseason in Cowboys history. During the spree, Jones has inked five players to contract extensions totaling more than $211 million, including tackle Flozell Adams, running back Marion Barber, cornerback Terence Newman, receiver Terrell Owens and Hamlin.

That number includes $58 million in signing bonuses alone. Yes, Jones has done his part—providing a talented and well-paid roster.

Now he wants results. He doesn’t just want to win a playoff game for the first time since 1996, he wants to win a Super Bowl.

Watching the Giants win only stoked the fire, and Jones is convinced the time is now for the Cowboys.

It…

Redskins Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Redskins, who rarely rely on rookies, have 10 draft picks plus the usual collection of rookie free agents on their training camp roster. But none of those players is expected to crack the starting 22-man lineup.

So other than punter Durant Brooks—if he beats out incumbent Derrick Frost—Washington’s most important rookie is probably its oldest one. That would be John Palermo, the 56-year-old defensive line coach.

Palermo coached in college for 31 years, 16 of them at Wisconsin, where nine of his players earned All-Big 10 honors and four became first-team All-Americans. One of them, new Redskins defensive end Erasmus James, taken 18th overall by Minnesota in the 2005 draft, said that Palermo “pretty much taught me everything I know.”

But after five…

Eagles Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Lito Sheppard situation just got a whole lot more interesting. With the start of training camp just days away, the unhappy cornerback has fired his longtime agents Lamont Smith and Peter Schaffer and replaced them with—drum roll, please—Drew Rosenhaus.

The oft-injured Sheppard is unhappy with his contract, which still has four years to run and will earn him just $2 million this season, a paltry sum compared to many of the league’s other top cornerbacks. He has asked to be traded, but so far, the team has not received an offer that has been to their liking.

Sheppard and Sheldon Brown have been the Eagles’ starting cornerbacks for the last four seasons. But Sheppard’s starting left corner job was handed to Asante Samuel when he signed a seven-year, $56…
